Hello Hair Friends,

Did you know that the beauty industry sends 877 lbs of Waste to the Landfills EVERY MINUTE! Most salon waste is not eligible to be recycling.

Hair although compostable is not allow in city composting. Hair is highly recyclable! Most salons just chuck it in the garbage.

People generate a staggering amount of hair waste—salons in the U.S. and Canada toss out some 31.5 tons a day, and that figure is sevenfold higher in Europe. Nearly all of that waste ends up in landfills and incinerators, where it can release harmful greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.

My Zero Waste Plan for Friseur NYC

I’ve partnered with Green Circle Salons (B Corp) to collect waste from your services to be recycled or repurposed. Hair can be made into to booms to clean up oil spills or used to strengthen bioplastic.

I’ll be saving all the hair, excess color, single use items, like foils from our visits, and PPE (disposable masks, gloves, sanitizing wipes, etc) and Green Circle salons will make sure they get repurposed, and stay out of the landfills.

I’m also avoiding bringing in plastic in the first place with Dip Shampoo / Conditioner Bars. And with refillable products like HairStory, who now has refills for styling products!!

I’ve got a lot to learn, and I’ll be updating my products and practices as I continue to educate myself. I’ll keep you posted.
